Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) president and Leader of the Opposition K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) is likely to attend the winter session of the Telangana Legislative Assembly beginning today, sources said. His presence is expected to add political significance to the session, marking one of his key appearances in the House after the BRS’s defeat in the 2023 Assembly elections.
The winter session is scheduled to commence this morning with customary proceedings, including obituary references for former legislators. The Business Advisory Committee (BAC) is expected to meet later in the day to finalise the duration and agenda of the session.
KCR, who has largely remained away from Assembly proceedings in recent months, is expected to take an active role as the Leader of the Opposition. Senior BRS leaders, including KT Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao, are also likely to participate in debates and raise issues concerning governance, welfare schemes and policy decisions of the Congress-led state government.
The session is anticipated to witness sharp exchanges between the ruling Congress and the opposition BRS, particularly on issues such as irrigation projects, inter-state river water disputes, farmers’ concerns, and implementation of welfare programmes. The Congress government, led by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, is expected to defend its policy initiatives and counter the opposition’s criticism.
Political observers believe KCR’s attendance could intensify debates and set the tone for the opposition’s strategy in the Assembly in the run-up to future political contests. The winter session is expected to play a crucial role in shaping legislative discourse and highlighting key political differences in the state.
