Assam Elections 2026: BJP Confident of Return, Focus on Development, Youth and Electoral Reforms

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday expressed confidence of returning to power in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, asserting that its campaign will be anchored in development, youth-centric policies and strengthening of the electoral process.
BJP spokesperson Hemanga Thakuria said the party’s performance over the past years has laid a strong foundation for public support, adding that voters would once again endorse the BJP’s governance model. He maintained that the government’s focus on infrastructure growth, welfare schemes and administrative reforms has translated into tangible benefits for people across the state.
Highlighting the party’s priorities ahead of the polls, Thakuria said the BJP is placing special emphasis on the aspirations of Assam’s youth. According to him, employment generation, skill development and opportunities for young people will remain central to the party’s election agenda, along with initiatives aimed at empowering women and marginalised communities.
The BJP leader also underlined the importance of electoral reforms, noting that efforts are being made to ensure a transparent and credible electoral process. He said clean and updated voter rolls, along with strict adherence to democratic norms, are essential for strengthening public trust in elections.
With the 2026 Assembly elections approaching, political activity in Assam has intensified, with parties gearing up to consolidate their bases and sharpen their campaign narratives. While the BJP projects confidence on the back of its development record and organisational strength, opposition parties are expected to step up their criticism and outreach in the coming months.
The Assam Legislative Assembly has 126 seats, and the elections are likely to be held in early 2026
