The Assam Cabinet on Friday approved a series of key decisions aimed at strengthening infrastructure development, improving governance and reforming administrative systems across the state.
At the meeting, the Cabinet cleared a proposal to raise ₹115 crore for road development projects, primarily through funding support from the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). The amount will be utilised for the construction and upgradation of roads in several districts, with a focus on improving connectivity in remote and hilly areas to boost economic activity and ease transportation.
In a major step towards land reforms, the Cabinet approved amendments to the Assam Land and Revenue Regulation, enabling greater use of digital processes such as online hearings and electronic submission of documents. The move is aimed at ensuring faster disposal of land-related cases, improving transparency and enhancing service delivery to citizens.
Under the government’s flagship land settlement initiative, Mission Basundhara, the Cabinet also approved several proposals for the settlement of government khas land and ceiling surplus land, benefitting hundreds of eligible families. These measures are expected to provide land security and legal ownership rights to indigenous and landless people.
The Cabinet further cleared reforms in the police department, allowing personnel from both armed and unarmed branches to appear in promotional examinations for higher ranks. Officials said the decision would promote equal opportunities and strengthen the overall efficiency of the police force.
In addition, the Cabinet approved certain revenue and administrative decisions, including measures to modernise governance and improve coordination between departments.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the decisions reflect the government’s commitment to accelerating development, ensuring transparent administration and improving public service delivery across Assam.
