A terrible train accident in Siliguri, West Bengal
A passenger train collided head-on with a freight train
The accident took place at Siliguri's Rangapani region, near to North Bengal's New Jalpaiguri station.
The accident occurred when the Agartala-Siliguri Kanchanjunga Express collided with another truck
Eight coaches of the train derailed
The authorities are trying to rescue passengers from the destroyed coach
The rescue operation continues with the cooperation of local residents
Six passengers were rescued with serious injuries
Many passengers are likely to be trapped in the derailed coaches
Eight passengers have been reported dead so far
Among the dead was a railway employee
Hundreds of passengers were seriously injured
Railway Minister Ashwini Vishnu tweeted about the incident
The accident is suspected to have occurred due to signal violation
Witnesses alleged that the freight train did not obey the signal.
