The Press Club of India has strongly condemned the recent assaults on photojournalists by the Delhi Police during the coverage of public protests led by Aam Aadmi Party workers at Patel Chowk on Tuesday.
This demanding the release of Arvind Kejriwal, Kejriwal Arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21, while a photojournalist factured his hand, another was spotted being choked , and issuing threats, The two professionals identified as Arun Thakur from the India Today group, and another photojournalist, Salam Ali of Hindustans.The visuals involved in the assault surfaced on social media, sparking an outrage.
The Press Club of India condemned the police action, any form of assualts on journalists and photojournalists is utterly unacceptable. The Press Club also mentioned the Fundamental rights to Freedom of Press which the Supreme Court has underlined numerous occasions in most emphatic terms.
As per reports, The Press Club of India has called for high-level-inquiry to be conducted by a retierd judgeinto yhe conduct of the Delhi Police, the press club demands immediated suspension of the identified police officers.
