Shah launches, lays foundation for ₹2,092-crore healthcare projects in Assam

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for healthcare projects worth ₹2,092 crore in Assam, aimed at strengthening the state’s medical infrastructure and improving access to healthcare services.
During his visit, Shah inaugurated the Pragjyotishpur Medical College and Hospital in Guwahati, built at a cost of around ₹675 crore. The new medical college is expected to enhance medical education opportunities and expand healthcare services for people in the region.
The Union minister also virtually inaugurated two cancer care centres developed under the Assam Cancer Care Foundation in Golaghat and Tinsukia. Each centre has been constructed at an estimated cost of ₹135 crore and will help expand cancer treatment facilities across the state.
In addition, Shah laid the foundation stones for several major healthcare projects, including super-speciality hospitals at Diphu Medical College and Hospital, Jorhat Medical College and Hospital and Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital in Barpeta. He also laid the foundation for the construction of Swasthya Bhawan in Guwahati and the Abhayapuri District Hospital in Abhayapuri.
Speaking at the programme, Shah said the projects would significantly strengthen Assam’s healthcare system and ensure better medical facilities for people, particularly in rural and remote areas.
Shah is on a two-day visit to Assam, during which he is also scheduled to attend and address a youth convention organised by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.
