Two IAF Pilots Killed as Sukhoi-30 MKI Crashes in Assam’s Karbi Anglong
Guwahati, March 6: Two pilots of the Indian Air Force (IAF) were killed after a Sukhoi Su‑30MKI fighter aircraft crashed in Assam’s Karbi Anglong district during a training mission, officials said on Friday.
The aircraft had taken off from the Jorhat Air Force Station on Thursday evening for a routine sortie. However, it lost contact with ground control shortly after take-off while flying over a forested area of Karbi Anglong. Search and rescue teams were immediately launched to locate the aircraft.
Later, the wreckage of the fighter jet was found in a remote hilly area of the district. The two pilots onboard Squadron Leader Anuj and Flight Lieutenant Purvesh Duragkar - were confirmed dead in the crash.
In a statement, the Indian Air Force expressed deep sorrow over the loss of the two officers and extended condolences to their families. Authorities said an inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the crash.
The Sukhoi-30 MKI is one of the frontline multirole fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force and is widely used for combat and training operations across the country.
