Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday said the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in the state is likely to finalise its seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming Assembly elections by mid-March.
Addressing reporters during a visit to Bokajan in Karbi Anglong, Sarma said discussions between the Bharatiya Janata Party and its alliance partners are progressing smoothly and are in an advanced stage. He added that the alliance aims to complete candidate selection around March 15–16 and formally announce the seat-sharing formula before the poll schedule is declared.
The Chief Minister also took a swipe at the Opposition’s proposed alliance, alleging that its leaders lack clarity and consistency in their political messaging. He downplayed reports of political realignments involving Akhil Gogoi, saying such moves would have limited electoral impact.
Commenting on the All Party Hill Leaders Conference aligning with the Congress, Sarma claimed the regional outfit has lost public support in Karbi Anglong.
With the Assam Assembly elections expected in March–April 2026, political negotiations and campaign activities across parties are set to intensify in the coming weeks.
