Assam Police have launched an investigation to trace the origin of bomb threat emails sent to two schools in Guwahati, which triggered panic and security alerts in the city, officials said on Friday.
According to the police, threatening emails claiming explosives had been planted were sent to Delhi Public School (DPS), Ahomgaon, and Sanskriti – The Gurukul. Following the alerts, police teams, including bomb disposal squads, were immediately deployed to the school premises.
A thorough search operation was carried out at both institutions; however, no explosive devices or suspicious materials were found, and the threats were later declared to be hoaxes, officials confirmed.
Senior police officials said efforts are underway to trace the source of the emails, including examining technical details such as IP addresses and possible use of virtual private networks (VPNs). “We are probing from where the emails were sent and whether similar threats were issued to other institutions,” a police officer said.
The incident coincided with Saraswati Puja, when many schools were closed, which may have delayed the initial detection of the threat messages. Authorities have advised school administrations to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious communication.
Police have also reassured the public that adequate security measures are in place, especially in view of upcoming national events, and that there is no cause for panic.
The incident has raised concerns among parents and school authorities, with officials emphasizing the need for strict action against those responsible for issuing false threats and attempting to create public fear.
