Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the detection of 220 coal mines in Umrangso, Dima Haso district, raising the concerns about the environmental and legal
implications of unregulating mining in the region.
The incident occured in January 6, when flooding trapped a coal miners, rescued teams have recovered four bodies so far, five are still m*ss*ng.
Chief Minister Sarma, in a Cabinet meeting confirmed that the dewatering process at the site it would take between 25 to 60 days and continued until all trapped workers are
retrived.
To provide, relief victims, families the government has pledged an ex gratia amount of Rs 10 lakh would be provided.
In a response, a judicial inquiry will led by Justice Anima Hazarika, former Judge of the High Court will be instituted, who has expected to submit her report within three months.
