A Shillong court on Friday denied bail to Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the high-profile Meghalaya honeymoon murder case, in which her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, was found dead during their honeymoon trip in May 2025. The couple, married on May 11, had gone missing shortly after traveling to Meghalaya, and Raja’s body was later recovered near Weisawdong Falls in East Khasi Hills. Sonam, who had been missing for over two weeks, was traced to Ghazipur in Uttar Pradesh, where she surrendered to authorities. Meghalaya Police have filed a detailed 700-page chargesheet alleging that the murder was premeditated, with Sonam conspiring alongside her alleged lover, Raj Singh Kushwaha, and three hired assailants. The charges against her include murder, criminal conspiracy, and tampering with evidence, which the defense denies. The court rejected her bail plea, citing the seriousness of the allegations and the strength of the evidence, and she will remain in judicial custody as the trial continues, while four other accused are also in custody. The case has attracted nationwide attention due to the shocking nature of the crime and the ongoing investigation.
