The Supreme Court has taken a closer look at the incident involving a young doctor in Kolkata. In a hearing observing the Kolkata doctors' case, the Supreme Court on Thursday termed the Kolkata police's delay in registering the abnormal death of a trainee female doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital as "extremely disturbing".
A bench of Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra heard the case. The Supreme Court also asked the protesting doctors to resume duties and assured them that no adverse action would be taken after they rejoined. Questioning the sequence and timing of the legal formalities conducted by the police, the bench said it was surprising that the post-mortem of the deceased was conducted between 6.10 pm and 7.10 pm on August 9 before it was registered as an 'unnatural death'!

2. Justice J.B. “I have not encountered such a process followed by the West Bengal State Police in 30 years,” Pardiwala said.
3. “We will ensure that no action is taken against the protesting doctors after they return to duty. How will the public health infrastructure function if doctors don’t work? If you still have difficulty, come to us.”
4. The Supreme Court directed the designated officer of the Kolkata Police who registered the first case about the shocking incident to appear at the next hearing and announce the date of the case.
