Assam goverenment has approved the Assam Muslim Registration Bill 2024,in a cabinet was held on August 22
Assam has compulsory resgistration of marriage and divorce bill also prohibits registrations of child marriages, which was permissible under certain conditions
As per the new legislation, registration of Muslim marriage will be done by a sub-registrar CM Sarma said, he also mentioned previously, marriage between Muslim boys and girls between 21 to 18 years of age respectively, could be registered.
Under the new law, this practice will be prohibited, no Muslim minor girl can register marriage in the state from now, he said
