The Indian football team captain Sunil Chhetri on Wednesday announced that he will retire from international football after the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifier against Kuwait on June.
Chhetri made the announcement on May 16, via a video in his X account where he said, this is going to be my last, the recollection of the last 19 years is a combination duty, pressure and immense joy.
He also played a key role in India's victories , including Nehru Cup (2007. 2009, 2012),the SAFF Championship (2011, 2015, 2021) and the AFC Challenge Cup win in 2018, which was the country's first AFC Asian Cup appearance in 27 years.
