IIT Madras has devolped India's most customizable Electric Standing Chair, which has been developed indigenously for the benegfit of wheelchair users. On 20th March The 'NeoStand' was launched at the campus in the presence of Prof. V.Kamakoti, Director IIT Madras, eminent dignitaries, generous supporters of this project, faculty, researchers and users of these rehabilitations devices.
NeoStand is a compact standing wheelchair with easy to use navigation for its motorized standing mechanism, at the touch button, wheelchair users can effortlessly transition for sitting to standing, opening a world of possibilities engaging eye-level conversations, reaching a books or simply having a cup of coffee standing by a counter.
This project was led by Prof. Sujatha Srinivasan, Head TTK Centre of Rehabilitations Research and Device Development (R2D20), IIT Madras who also led the developmentment of 'Arise' Indian first manual standing wheelchair and NeoBolt, the country's first motorizeds add-on for wheelchairs.
