AIIMS, one of the medical centres in the country, is proposed to be renamed. A total of 23 AIIMS in different parts of the country including Delhi will be renamed.
The new name will be after a freedom fighter or a local hero. It has also sought suggestions from the health ministry for the same.
The government has proposed to name all the 23 AIIMS, including Delhi, after local heroes, freedom fighters, historic events and monuments in the region.
According to official sources, AIIMS has submitted the list of names after the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare sought suggestions in this regard.
Suggestions have been sought for giving various names related to heroes and monuments of the region to AIIMS in this regard.
Most of the companies are learnt to have called for suggestions of three to four names along with explanatory notes for suggested names.
While six new AIIMS - Bihar (Patna), Chhattisgarh (Raipur), Madhya Pradesh (Bhopal), Orissa (Bhubaneswar), Rajasthan (Jodhpur) and Uttarakhand (Rishikesh)
PMSSY was approved in the first phase and is fully operational.
Of the 16 AIIMS set up between 2015 and 2022, MBBS classes and outpatient services have been started in 10 institutes, while only MBBS classes have been started in the other two. The remaining four firms are at various stages of development.
