The Indian National Congress on Sunday announced its “five guarantees” for Assam, promising a series of welfare measures aimed at women, healthcare, land rights, and social security ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
The announcement was made by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge during a public rally, where he outlined the party’s vision for the state and sought to position Congress as a pro-people alternative to the ruling government.
Among the प्रमुख promises is a monthly cash transfer scheme for women, aimed at strengthening financial independence and household security. The party also pledged ₹50,000 financial assistance to women entrepreneurs to help them start or expand small businesses.
In the healthcare sector, Congress promised a cashless health insurance cover of up to ₹25 lakh per family, significantly enhancing access to quality medical treatment for citizens across Assam.
The party further committed to providing land pattas to 10 lakh indigenous people, addressing long-standing concerns over land ownership and livelihood security in the state.
For senior citizens, the Congress announced a monthly pension of ₹1,250, along with plans to introduce dedicated welfare mechanisms to support the elderly population.
Additionally, the party assured that it would ensure time-bound justice in high-profile cases, including matters related to Assamese cultural figures such as Zubeen Garg.
Addressing the gathering, Kharge criticized the BJP-led government, accusing it of failing to deliver on key issues and alleging misgovernance. He emphasized that the Congress guarantees are designed to restore “justice, dignity, and economic stability” in Assam.
With elections approaching, the announcement marks a significant step in Congress’ campaign strategy, as political parties intensify their outreach to voters across the state.
