Narendra Modi on Friday virtually unveiled development projects worth ₹4,570 crore in Kokrajhar district of Assam, aimed at strengthening infrastructure and connectivity in the region.
The Prime Minister launched the projects through video conferencing from Guwahati after his scheduled visit to Kokrajhar was cancelled due to heavy rainfall. The projects are expected to boost economic development and improve transport networks across the Bodoland Territorial Region.
The development package includes several road, railway and bridge infrastructure projects, along with initiatives to enhance regional connectivity and facilitate smoother transportation. During the programme, Modi also flagged off three new trains, aimed at improving rail connectivity in the northeastern region.
Officials said the initiatives will help reduce travel time, ease traffic congestion and improve access to key services such as healthcare, markets and education, particularly in remote areas.
The Prime Minister also took part in the foundation-laying ceremony for multiple infrastructure projects, including flyovers and bridges, which are expected to significantly strengthen transport infrastructure in western Assam.
The projects form part of the government’s broader push to accelerate infrastructure development in the Northeast and are expected to contribute to economic growth and improved connectivity in the region.
