First border pillar between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh erected at Seijosa

In a significant step toward resolving the long-pending interstate boundary dispute, the first official border pillar between Assam and Arunachal Pradesh was jointly erected at Seijosa in Pakke-Kessang district on Sunday.
The pillar was installed by coordinated teams of senior officials from both states in the presence of representatives from the Survey of India, marking the formal beginning of on-ground demarcation of the inter-state boundary. The exercise follows the roadmap agreed upon under the Namsai Declaration aimed at settling the decades-old border issue through joint verification and mutual consent.
Arunachal Pradesh Health and Family Welfare Minister Biyuram Wahge, along with district officials, attended the programme from the Arunachal side, while officials of the Biswanath district administration represented Assam.
Officials described the development as a major milestone in the boundary resolution process and expressed hope that the initiative would bring administrative clarity and long-term stability to border residents. Further demarcation work is expected to continue in phases along other agreed stretches of the Assam–Arunachal boundary.
