RHJF to play key role in upcoming Assembly election: Tankeswar Rabha

The Rabha Hasong Joint Forum (RHJF) will play a significant and decisive role in the forthcoming Assam Assembly elections, Chief Executive Member Tankeswar Rabha said on Sunday, indicating increased political mobilisation in the Rabha Hasong region.
Speaking to reporters in Boko, Rabha said the Forum is preparing to influence the electoral outcome in four Assembly constituencies under the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council (RHAC), which covers parts of South Kamrup and Goalpara districts. He, however, noted that the Forum will announce its detailed poll strategy at an appropriate time.
Highlighting ongoing development efforts, Rabha said projects worth around ₹70 crore are currently being implemented across the council area. He reiterated the long-pending demand for inclusion of the RHAC under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution and urged the Centre to sanction ₹300 crore for infrastructure and connectivity improvements, stating that nearly seven lakh residents of the region would benefit.
Earlier in the day, RHAC leaders inaugurated several development projects in Hahim and Jongakhuli constituencies, including a cultural stage, a community hall, a women’s welfare building, and the Langkona–Dakhilipara connecting culvert near Boko. Local residents expressed hope that the new infrastructure would ease longstanding connectivity and civic challenges.
The statement from the RHJF leadership signals the growing political importance of the Rabha Hasong belt as Assam moves toward the next Assembly polls.
