In a significant social outreach initiative, a mass wedding ceremony was organised in Dhekiajuli, bringing together 27 underprivileged couples from tea garden communities in a celebratory and culturally rich event.
The programme was aimed at supporting economically weaker families by reducing the financial burden associated with traditional marriage ceremonies. The weddings were solemnised following customary rituals in the presence of family members, community leaders, and local residents.
Notably, the ceremony also included one visually impaired couple, highlighting the inclusive nature of the initiative. Organisers said the event sought to promote dignity, social welfare, and community bonding among tea garden workers.
The occasion witnessed enthusiastic participation from the local community, with well-wishers extending blessings to the newly married couples. Organisers expressed hope that such initiatives would continue to support marginalised families and strengthen social cohesion in tea garden areas.
