Danish Lawmaker Tells Trump to ‘F* Off’ During Heated Greenland Debate**

A Danish lawmaker sparked controversy in the European Parliament after using profane language to rebuke former U.S. President Donald Trump during a debate on Greenland, drawing sharp reactions both inside and outside the chamber.
The remark was made by Anders Vistisen, a Danish Member of the European Parliament, while addressing Trump’s renewed rhetoric suggesting that the United States should seek control over Greenland, an autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark. During his speech, Vistisen said, “Let me put this in words you might understand: Mr President, f** off,”* prompting immediate intervention from the presiding chair.
The Vice President of the European Parliament interrupted the speech, reminding the lawmaker that such language violated parliamentary decorum and rules of conduct. Vistisen was asked to refrain from using offensive language, after which he continued his address in Danish.
The incident comes amid growing tensions between European leaders and Trump over comments he has made portraying Greenland as strategically vital for U.S. and NATO security interests. Trump has repeatedly argued that the Arctic island’s location and resources make it crucial amid increasing global competition involving Russia and China.
Denmark and Greenland’s leadership have firmly rejected any suggestion that the territory is for sale or subject to external control. Danish officials have emphasized that Greenland’s future can only be decided by its people, a position echoed by several European leaders during the debate.
The outburst quickly went viral on social media and reignited discussions about diplomatic language, transatlantic relations, and the sensitivities surrounding Arctic geopolitics. While some lawmakers criticized the use of profanity in a formal setting, others said the remark reflected mounting frustration in Europe over what they view as aggressive rhetoric toward a sovereign territory.
The debate highlights broader strains in U.S.–EU relations and underscores Greenland’s growing importance in global strategic calculations as climate change and security concerns reshape the Arctic region.
