The country will hold the fifth phase of elections on May 20 Voting will be held in 49 constituencies in six states and two union territories. Bihar has five seats, Jharkhand three, Maharashtra 13, Orrisa 5 , Uttar Pradesh 14 and West Bengal 7.

Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh will have one seat each. Of the 1,586 nominations filed in 49 constituencies, 695 candidates will be considered valid. Of the 695 candidates, 82 are women.
The fifth phase of the polls will decide the fate of several heavyweight candidates. The fate of Congress candidate Rahul Gandhi from Rae Bareli constituency will be decided. BJP candidate Dinesh Pratap Singh is contesting against Rahul Gandhi. Similarly, Union Minister Smriti Irani will face her fate in Amethi constituency in Uttar Pradesh. Smriti Irani is opposed by Congress candidate Kishore Lal Sharma. The fate of incumbent Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh will be decided in Lucknow constituency.

The 72-year-old BJP leader and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Rajnath Singh is contesting from Lucknow constituency for the third consecutive term. Samajwadi Party candidate Ravidas Mehrotra is the strongest candidate among nine other candidates against Rajnath Singh, who has been contesting from Lucknow constituency. Mehrotra pratra is a three-time MLA. The fate of BJP candidate Piyush Goyal from Mumbai North and NDA and LJP leader Chirag Paswan from Hajipur constituency in Bihar will be decided. RJD leader Rohini Acharya is fighting against BJP candidate and Union Minister Raji Pratap Rudy in Bihar's Charan constituency. The fate of India Alliance leader and National Conference leader, former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, will be decided in Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla constituency.


Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's fate will be decided in the fifth phase of the polls. After losing the Gandhi family's stronghold of Amethi in Uttar Pradesh in 2019, Rahul Gandhi is contesting from Rae Bareli, another Congress stronghold. and on May 20, vote battles in both Amethi and Rae Bareli constituencies. Since Rahul Gandhi was announced as his candidate in Rae Bareli constituency on the last day of nomination papers, Congress and Indi Alliance leaders have been busy campaigning for him. Rahul Gandhi's sister Priyanka Chopra and Congress leaders are campaigning in Rae Bareli while India Alliance partner and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav is also campaigning for Rahul Gandhi.
