The Income Tax Department has issued a notice of Rs 1,823 crore to the Indian National Congress  citing ahead in a crucial 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the fresh notice is for assessment years 2017-18 to 2020-21 included penalty and interest.

Party tresurer Ajay Maken and General Secretary Jairam Ramesh disclosed this information March 29 during a press conference held at AICC headquaters.

As per media, Jairam Ramesh accused Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of engaging in what he termed as 'tax terrorism' he alleged Rs 8,200  crore as donation through the electoral bond scam, there were different channels such as 'pre-paid, post-paid, post-raid bribes and shell companies.'

Maken added, stating that demand from Income Tax Department of Rs 53 crore back to 1993-94 during Sitaram Kesri's as the president of Congress party. Maken also leveled  accusations of serious income tax law violations against the BJP, the party should be liable for the penality of Rs 4,600 crore.The income Tax Department should raise a demand from the BJP for the payment of this amount. 

The Delhi High Court on THursday, dismissed petitions filed by the Congress challenging the initation of tax reassesment proceedings spanning four years by tax authorities. The bench of Delhi High Court Justices Yashwant Varma and Purushaindra Kumar Kaurav sttaed that the pleas were rejected with their earlier decisions for intervening in the additional years. The matter under consideration covers the assessment years 2017 to 2021 after a similar dismissal last week of applications pertaining to the assessment years 2014-15 to 2016-17.`    


The  Delhi High Court said the decision was a challenge against the initiation of reassessment proceedings for the assessment year 2014-2017 involving the party. In its March 22 order, the bench dismissed Congress’ petition challenging the process of reassessing taxes for 2014-15, 2015-16, and 2016-17 and sent a notice of Rs 1,700 crore to the Congress party. There is widespread discussion about this.
