On March 13 Wedensday, the central goverenment wrote to chief secretaries of states and union territories had directed states to ban the sale and breeding of 23 breeds of ferocious dogs, included Pitbull Terrier, American Bulldog, Rottweiler and Mastiffs and various shepherd dogs, Boerboel, Kangal, Tornjak, Bandog, Sarplaniac, Japanese Tosa, Akita, Wolf Dogs, Moscow Guarddog, Canario, Dogo Argentio, and Akbash Dog etc.
Morever, an expert committee , chaired by the commisioner of Animal Husbandry, has also recommended prohibiting the important of such dog breeds
This decision was taken following appeals People for the Ehtical Treatment for Animals (PETA) India and writ petition filed in the Delhi High Court.
