No Option but to Accept Assam Observer’s Role: Karnataka Deputy CM D.K. Shivakumar

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister and Pradesh Congress Committee president D.K. Shivakumar has said that he had “no option but to accept” his appointment as a senior observer for Assam, asserting that party discipline and responsibility come above personal preference.
Speaking to the media, Shivakumar said that as a committed Congress worker, he was bound to carry out any responsibility assigned by the party high command. “I don’t have any option. Whatever the party asks me to do, I have to do it,” he said, adding that working for the organisation remained his primary duty.
The All India Congress Committee (AICC) recently appointed Shivakumar as a senior observer for Assam ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. He has been entrusted with overseeing organisational coordination, election preparedness and campaign strategy in the State, along with other senior leaders appointed by the party.
Shivakumar noted that he had earlier worked in Assam in a similar role and was familiar with the political landscape of the State. He said he would carry out his responsibilities to the best of his ability, in line with the party’s broader electoral strategy.
His remarks come amid ongoing political discussions within Karnataka, where Shivakumar is a key leader in the ruling Congress government. However, he dismissed any speculation, reiterating that assignments given by the party leadership must be honoured without hesitation.
The Congress has deployed senior leaders as observers in poll-bound states as part of its efforts to strengthen organisation and coordination ahead of key elections, including in Assam, where the party is seeking to mount a strong challenge in the next Assembly polls.
