Six Injured After Escort Vehicle in Sarbananda Sonowal’s Convoy Crashes in Assam

At least six people, including four police personnel, were injured on Sunday after an escort vehicle in the convoy of Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal met with an accident in Assam’s Dibrugarh district, officials said.
The incident occurred on the Hatiali Bypass in the Chabua area when one of the escort vehicles reportedly collided with a civilian car, triggering a crash involving multiple vehicles. Sonowal, the Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways and former Assam chief minister, was travelling from Dibrugarh to his native village Bindhakata at the time. He was not injured in the accident.
Police said Rajya Sabha MP Rameswar Teli, who was also part of the convoy, escaped unhurt. All the injured, including the four policemen, were immediately rushed to the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) for treatment. Hospital authorities said their condition is stable and out of danger.
Traffic movement in the area was briefly affected following the accident, while police personnel managed the situation and cleared the road. An inquiry has been ordered to ascertain the cause of the crash.
Despite the incident, the minister continued his journey after the injured were shifted to hospital, officials added.
