Kerala Police have arrested a man from Assam for allegedly sharing extremist and hate-based content on social media platforms, officials said on Tuesday.
The accused, identified as a native of Assam who had been residing in Kerala for the past two years, was apprehended from the Kaipamangalam area in Thrissur district following a tip-off about his online activities. He was reportedly working with a private firm in the state.
According to the police, the man is accused of posting and circulating content that allegedly promoted extremist ideology and religious hatred. A preliminary probe suggested that some of the posts had the potential to disturb communal harmony and public order.
Investigators also claimed that the accused was in contact with individuals outside India through phone calls and social media platforms. These aspects are currently under detailed examination as part of the ongoing investigation. Police said digital devices have been seized and are being subjected to forensic analysis.
A case has been registered under relevant sections of the law, and the accused has been produced before a local court, which remanded him to judicial custody. Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to ascertain whether the accused had links to any organised extremist network.
Authorities reiterated that strict action would be taken against anyone found misusing social media to spread hatred or extremist views, adding that monitoring of online platforms has been intensified in recent months.
No official response was immediately available from the accused or his family.
