‘Historic Day’: Assam CM Hails Inauguration of Batadrava Than Redevelopment Project

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday termed the inauguration of the Batadrava Than Redevelopment Project as a “historic day” for the state, ahead of its formal opening scheduled for Monday.
The redeveloped Batadrava Than, located in Nagaon district, holds immense spiritual and cultural significance as the birthplace of the revered Vaishnav saint and social reformer Srimanta Sankardeva. The inauguration will be attended by Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is visiting Assam for the event.
In a message shared on social media, Chief Minister Sarma said the project represents a landmark moment in Assam’s cultural journey and reflects the state government’s commitment to preserving and showcasing its spiritual heritage. He added that the redevelopment would help promote the teachings and legacy of Sankardeva at a national and global level.
The Batadrava Than Redevelopment Project, undertaken by the Assam government, aims to transform the historic site into a world-class spiritual and cultural destination. The project includes improved infrastructure, pilgrim amenities and architectural elements inspired by traditional Assamese and Vaishnavite aesthetics, while preserving the sanctity of the original site.
Officials said the redevelopment work is nearing completion and includes facilities such as guest houses, cultural spaces, and areas for research and spiritual activities. The initiative is also expected to boost religious tourism and generate economic opportunities for the local population.
Ahead of the inauguration, the Chief Minister reviewed final preparations at the site and directed officials to ensure smooth arrangements for devotees and visitors expected to attend the event.
The inauguration of the redeveloped Batadrava Than is being seen as a major milestone in Assam’s efforts to conserve its cultural heritage and strengthen its identity rooted in the teachings of Srimanta Sankardeva.
