Assam Played Major Role in Ahom Empire, Will Shine in Viksit Bharat Too: PM Modi in Dibrugarh
Dibrugarh: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said Assam played a significant role during the Ahom Empire and would continue to shine in the journey towards a Viksit Bharat (Developed India), highlighting the State’s historical legacy and future potential.
Addressing a public gathering in Dibrugarh, the Prime Minister said the Ahom dynasty protected Assam’s identity and sovereignty for nearly 600 years and played a crucial role in shaping the cultural and political history of the region. He said the bravery, governance and self-reliance demonstrated during the Ahom period remain a source of inspiration for the country.
Referring to the Centre’s development vision, Mr. Modi said Assam is emerging as a key driver of growth in the Northeast and will play an important role in India’s development by 2047. He highlighted improvements in infrastructure, connectivity and investment in the State over the past decade.
The Prime Minister pointed to major projects in roadways, railways, inland waterways and airports, stating that enhanced connectivity has opened new opportunities for trade, tourism and employment in Upper Assam and other parts of the State. He also underlined the Centre’s focus on preserving Assam’s cultural heritage while pushing for modern development.
Mr. Modi said peace and stability in the Northeast have improved significantly, creating a favourable environment for economic growth and youth participation. He urged young people to take pride in Assam’s history and actively contribute to the vision of a developed India.
The Dibrugarh event was part of the Prime Minister’s multi-day visit to Assam, during which he has participated in several programmes, including cultural events, student interactions and the launch of development initiatives.
