The Indian government has formally charged Pakistan-based militant groups and six other individuals in connection with the recent killings in Pahalgam, Kashmir, officials said on Monday. The move marks a key development in the investigation into one of the deadliest attacks in the region in recent months.
Authorities stated that the militant outfits, operating from across the border, were involved in orchestrating the attack that left multiple civilians and security personnel dead. Investigations conducted by central and state agencies uncovered a coordinated plot, with local operatives allegedly facilitating logistics and planning.
The six individuals named in the charges include residents of Jammu & Kashmir suspected of aiding the militant groups. Officials emphasized that strong legal action is being pursued to hold all perpetrators accountable under the law.
Security forces in the valley have intensified operations to prevent further violence, while local authorities have stepped up patrolling and intelligence gathering in sensitive areas. The government has also reiterated its commitment to neutralize cross-border terrorism and ensure the safety of civilians.
This development comes amid heightened tensions along the Line of Control (LoC) and ongoing security concerns in the Kashmir Valley. Investigators said the case against the accused would be presented in court, with trials expected under stringent anti-terrorism provisions.
The charges highlight India’s continued focus on tracking and prosecuting Pakistan-based terror networks linked to militancy in Jammu & Kashmir, as part of broader counterterrorism operations in the region.
