Two people, including a 22-year-old woman and her child, drowned in a water-filled drain in Ghazipur, Delhi, while two people were injured in separate incidents as torrential rains brought the nation's capital to a standstill, causing heavy traffic jams. The floods caused a river-like situation on the roads and hundreds of people were trapped on the roads.
Delhi Education Minister Atish on Wednesday night announced that all schools in the city would be closed on Thursday. In a post published in 'X', Education Minister Atish said all public and private schools will be closed on August 1 due to heavy rains on Wednesday evening and heavy rains on Thursday.
The India Meteorological Department on Wednesday issued a 'red' warning for Delhi, predicting heavy and torrential rains in the next 24 hours. “North Delhi, central Delhi, New Delhi, south Delhi, south-east Delhi, east Delhi, NCR are expected to witness moderate to light rains in the next two hours,” the IMD said.
