AIUDF Pins Hopes on Owaisi Campaign to Regain Minority Support in Assam

The All India United Democratic Front has pinned its hopes on a campaign by Asaduddin Owaisi to regain minority support ahead of the upcoming Assam Assembly elections.
AIUDF president Badruddin Ajmal said that Owaisi’s visit is expected to energise the party’s base and strengthen its outreach among minority voters. He expressed confidence that the campaign would help reverse the party’s recent electoral setbacks and reconnect with its traditional support base.
Owaisi, who leads the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen, is scheduled to campaign in Assam over two days, addressing multiple public rallies in key constituencies. These include minority-dominated districts such as Dhubri, Barpeta, Goalpara, and Nagaon.
The campaign is also aimed at boosting Ajmal’s prospects in the Binnakandi Assembly constituency, where he is contesting in the upcoming polls. Party leaders believe that Owaisi’s presence will help consolidate votes and counter the growing influence of rival parties.
Political analysts note that AIUDF has struggled to retain its voter base in recent elections, with a section of minority voters shifting towards the Congress. The party also faced a major setback in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, where Ajmal lost his long-held Dhubri seat.
The AIUDF’s collaboration with Owaisi’s party is being viewed as a strategic move to consolidate minority votes and strengthen its position in a multi-cornered contest involving the BJP and the Congress.
With polling scheduled later this month, the coming days are expected to see intensified campaigning across the state, with Owaisi’s rallies likely to play a significant role in shaping the electoral dynamics.
