Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday launched a sharp attack on Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, urging him to publicly disclose details of alleged properties in Pakistan and London.
Addressing the media, Sarma said that Gogoi should submit complete information about any overseas assets to the Election Commission to ensure transparency. He also raised questions regarding Gogoi’s financial disclosures, particularly concerning his wife’s alleged income and a reported bank account in Pakistan.
The Chief Minister claimed that Gogoi owned properties in Pakistan and London in his wife’s name and asserted that the Congress leader should make all relevant documents public. Sarma added that if no such properties exist, Gogoi should release details of the alleged foreign bank transactions for verification.
Further intensifying the attack, Sarma hinted that more serious allegations could be revealed after the elections. He also referred to Gogoi’s past visit to Pakistan, questioning the purpose of the trip.
The remarks come amid escalating political tensions in Assam ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections, with leaders from the BJP and Congress engaging in a war of words over issues ranging from personal assets to national security.
Meanwhile, there has been no immediate response from Gaurav Gogoi regarding the allegations at the time of filing this report.
