Congress turned Assam into ‘corridor for illegal infiltration’: Nitin Nabin in Jagiroad

Amid the intensifying campaign for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections, senior BJP leader Nitin Nabin on Monday accused the Congress of turning Assam into a “corridor for illegal infiltration” during its years in power.
Addressing an election rally in Jagiroad, Nabin alleged that the previous Congress governments failed to protect the state’s borders and compromised the interests of indigenous people by allowing unchecked infiltration from Bangladesh. He claimed that this had led to demographic changes and displacement of local communities in several parts of the state.
Campaigning in support of BJP candidate and Assam minister Pijush Hazarika, the BJP national general secretary said that the current BJP-led government has taken strong steps to identify and act against illegal immigrants. He asserted that safeguarding Assam’s identity and ensuring security remain key priorities of the party.
Nabin also highlighted what he described as developmental achievements under the BJP government, stating that Assam has witnessed improved infrastructure, better connectivity, and a decline in insurgency-related incidents in recent years. Referring to the Centre’s role, he said the Northeast has received unprecedented attention under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Urging voters to re-elect the BJP, Nabin appealed for support to ensure continuity of development and stability in the state. He further emphasised welfare initiatives aimed at women and economically weaker sections, stating that such schemes have contributed to greater financial inclusion.
The rally was attended by several party leaders, including Assam BJP president Dilip Saikia, as the party ramps up its outreach ahead of the elections.
The Congress has yet to officially respond to the allegations.
