The All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Saturday announced its second list of candidates for the upcoming Assam Assembly elections 2026, while dropping the name of a senior state leader from the final roster in a significant last-minute change.
According to party sources, the candidature of the Assam unit’s senior vice-president, which had figured in earlier considerations, has been withdrawn from the newly released list. The decision is being viewed as part of the party’s internal recalibration and strategy adjustment ahead of the crucial electoral contest.
The second list comes as part of TMC’s phased approach to declaring candidates across constituencies. The party has been steadily expanding its presence in Assam and is attempting to emerge as a viable alternative in a politically competitive landscape dominated by national and regional players.
