Assam Pradesh Congress Committee president Gaurav Gogoi on Sunday expressed confidence that voters in Assam will “uproot” the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party government in the upcoming 2026 Assam Legislative Assembly election.
Speaking to reporters following the announcement of the election schedule by the Election Commission of India, Gogoi said the people of the state are ready for a change and will vote for a Congress-led government.
He alleged that the government headed by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had failed to fulfil the expectations of the people and accused it of corruption and poor governance. According to Gogoi, the electorate will respond through the ballot box in the upcoming polls.
“The people of Assam want development, transparency and justice. They will uproot this government and bring a new administration that works for everyone,” Gogoi said.
The Congress leader also asserted that his party, along with its allies, is preparing strongly for the election and is confident of forming the next government in the state.
The election will determine the composition of the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly, with the ruling BJP-led alliance seeking to retain power while the Congress and its partners aim to make a comeback.
Political activities across the state have intensified in recent days as parties announce candidates and campaign strategies ahead of the crucial contest.
