A scientist from Assam has earned international recognition after being selected for the prestigious LIFT Fellowship for her innovative research in biotechnology. Lekhika Pathak, a researcher associated with Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, has been chosen for the global fellowship programme hosted by UMass M2D2 in the United States.
The fellowship recognises Dr. Pathak’s research proposal titled “Biomarker Discovery Platform for Detection of Accelerated Aging.” The project aims to develop a biomarker-based system that can help identify early signs of accelerated ageing, which could assist in timely diagnosis and improved healthcare interventions.
The LIFT Fellowship supports innovators working on solutions related to healthy ageing and medical technology. Selected fellows receive mentoring and training in areas such as competitive analysis, regulatory strategy, intellectual property management, and venture financing to help translate their scientific ideas into real-world applications.
Dr. Pathak has been selected among 12 fellows worldwide in the fourth cohort of the programme. She is also reported to be the first scientist from Assam to receive this honour.
Originally from Bokakhat in Assam, Dr. Pathak’s achievement has brought pride to the state’s scientific community and highlights the growing contribution of researchers from the region to global biomedical innovation.
