EC to Announce Assembly Poll Dates for Five States Today

The Election Commission of India (ECI) is set to announce the schedule for the upcoming Assembly elections in Assam, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, West Bengal and the Union Territory of Puducherry on Sunday.
According to officials, the poll panel will unveil the election dates during a press conference in New Delhi at around 4 pm. The announcement will include details such as the polling schedule, number of phases, nomination deadlines, and the date for counting of votes.
The Assembly terms in the five poll-bound regions are set to expire between May and June this year, making it necessary for the elections to be conducted before then to constitute new governments.
Once the schedule is announced, the Model Code of Conduct will come into immediate effect in the respective states and Union Territory, regulating campaign activities and government announcements during the election period.
Political parties have already begun preparations for the crucial polls, announcing candidates and intensifying campaigns in several constituencies. The elections are expected to witness keen contests among major national and regional parties across the five regions.
The Election Commission is also expected to outline security arrangements and measures to ensure smooth and fair polling.
