500 Participate in Plogging Drive Along Brahmaputra Dyke in Dibrugarh

Around 500 people took part in a plogging drive along the Brahmaputra dyke in Dibrugarh on Sunday, aiming to promote environmental awareness and cleanliness in the riverfront area.
The initiative was organised by the Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation in collaboration with Shrishti NGO. Participants jogged and walked along the dyke while collecting plastic waste and other litter, combining physical exercise with environmental conservation.
The drive was conducted along the Dibrugarh Town Protection Dyke on the banks of the Brahmaputra River, a popular spot for morning walks and recreational activities. Volunteers, including students, social workers, and members of local organisations, joined the campaign despite light drizzle and cloudy weather.
Organisers said the initiative aimed to raise awareness about responsible waste disposal and encourage citizens to keep public spaces clean. Participants were seen carrying banners and placards highlighting the importance of protecting the environment.
Officials stated that the programme sought to promote the concept of plogging—picking up litter while jogging—as a sustainable activity that benefits both public health and the environment. They also urged residents to adopt eco-friendly habits and support efforts to maintain cleanliness along the riverfront.
The organisers expressed hope that such community-driven initiatives would inspire more people to participate in environmental protection and contribute to making the city cleaner and greener.
