The Assam Rifles organised a Mega Ex-Servicemen Rally in Silchar to honour veterans and extend welfare support to former soldiers and their families.
The rally witnessed the participation of a large number of ex-servicemen, Veer Naris, widows and dependents from across the region. The event aimed to recognise the contributions and sacrifices made by retired personnel while also addressing their welfare-related concerns.
The programme was attended by senior military officials, including Lieutenant General Abhijit S. Pendharkar, General Officer Commanding of the III Corps (Spear Corps). Addressing the gathering, he lauded the dedication and service of veterans and reaffirmed the commitment of the armed forces towards their well-being.
Several service and assistance counters were set up during the rally, including grievance redressal cells, banking facilities, and help desks related to the Canteen Stores Department (CSD). These counters helped ex-servicemen resolve administrative issues and access various services and welfare schemes.
A medical camp was also organised as part of the event, where specialists from different fields provided free health check-ups and consultations for veterans and their families.
Officials said the rally also served as a platform for ex-servicemen to reconnect with their former comrades and stay informed about the benefits and support systems available to them. The initiative reflects the continued efforts of the Assam Rifles to maintain strong ties with the veteran community and ensure their welfare.
