Israel Warns Khamenei’s Successor Will Be ‘Target for Assassination’ Amid Rising Iran Tensions

Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz has warned that whoever succeeds Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei would be treated as a “target for elimination,” sharply escalating rhetoric as hostilities between Israel and Iran intensify.
The warning comes amid reports that Iran’s clerical establishment has begun deliberations over a possible successor to Khamenei following claims by Israeli officials that the long-time Iranian leader may no longer be alive. However, there has been no official confirmation from Tehran regarding Khamenei’s status.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently stated there were “many signs” indicating Khamenei was no longer alive, further fuelling speculation and uncertainty in the region.
According to media reports, Israeli forces also struck a building in the Iranian city of Qom where members of the Assembly of Experts were believed to be meeting to discuss succession plans. The reported strike has heightened fears of a broader regional escalation.
The developments come against the backdrop of the ongoing Iran–Israel confrontation, which has triggered global concern. Several countries have cautioned that continued military pressure and targeted threats against Iran’s leadership could destabilise the wider Middle East.
The situation remains fluid as Tehran weighs its next steps and the international community closely monitors the possibility of further escalation.
