Assam reclaims 300 acres in Palasbari, says Himanta Biswa Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Tuesday announced that nearly 300 acres of encroached government land have been reclaimed in the Palasbari area of Kamrup district as part of the state’s ongoing eviction drive.
The Chief Minister said the operation was conducted by the district administration with support from police and forms part of the government’s broader effort to make the state free from illegal encroachment. He reiterated that the drive targets government, forest and grazing lands that have been under unauthorized occupation for long periods.
Officials said the eviction was carried out peacefully, though authorities remained on alert during the exercise. The reclaimed land will be protected from fresh encroachment, sources added.
The state government has intensified similar eviction operations across Assam in recent years, with Sarma maintaining that such measures are necessary for land management, infrastructure development and safeguarding public resources.
