Assam will receive a major rail connectivity boost with Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announcing the introduction of 52 new train stoppages across the state. The initiative, being implemented by Indian Railways under the Northeast Frontier Railway, aims to improve passenger convenience, particularly for residents of smaller towns and semi-urban areas who currently face limited access to major trains. Officials said the new halts will be introduced on an experimental basis and reviewed later based on demand, with the state government expecting the move to enhance mobility, strengthen rural-urban connectivity, and support economic and tourism growth across Assam.
