Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Saturday flagged off the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (Bharatiya Janata Party) statewide ‘Jan Ashirwad Yatra’, marking a major public outreach drive ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
The yatra was formally launched from Dhekiajuli in Sonitpur district, where the chief minister sought public blessings and highlighted the achievements of both the state and the Centre’s BJP-led governments. Party leaders said the programme aims to strengthen grassroots connect and mobilise support across Assam.
Addressing supporters at the launch, Sarma said the yatra is intended to take the government’s development narrative directly to the people and to seek their continued trust. He emphasised that the BJP remains committed to inclusive growth and welfare initiatives in the state.
According to party sources, the first phase of the yatra will run till early March and will cover multiple constituencies. Senior BJP leaders, MPs, MLAs and party workers are expected to participate in the campaign at various stages.
The BJP has described the ‘Jan Ashirwad Yatra’ as part of its early preparations for the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, with a focus on highlighting infrastructure development, welfare schemes and governance reforms undertaken in recent years.
The launch comes amid heightened political activity in Assam, as major parties begin to step up their campaigns in the run-up to the crucial state polls.
