Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday visited the revered Kamakhya Temple and offered prayers for the peace, prosperity, and development of Assam, coinciding with the polling day for the 2026 Assembly elections.
Accompanied by his family, the Chief Minister performed rituals at the temple, one of the most prominent Shakti Peethas in the country, located atop the Nilachal Hills in Guwahati. He expressed hope for the well-being of the people and continued progress of the state.

Sarma, who is contesting from the Jalukbari constituency, visited the temple amid heightened political activity as voters across Assam cast their ballots to elect representatives to the 126-member Assembly. The day is being seen as crucial for both the ruling BJP-led alliance and the opposition parties.
The Kamakhya Temple holds immense religious and cultural significance and often witnesses visits by political leaders during key occasions, especially elections, reflecting the blend of faith and public life in the region.
Polling across the state began early in the morning under tight security arrangements, with authorities ensuring smooth and peaceful voting.
