Assam Cabinet Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah on Wednesday inaugurated the newly constructed Beltola Daily Market Complex in Guwahati, marking a key step toward modernising one of the city’s busiest traditional marketplaces.
Speaking on the occasion, the minister said the upgraded facility will significantly improve the working environment for vendors and enhance the shopping experience for residents. The new complex has been designed with improved stalls, better sanitation facilities and organised infrastructure to reduce congestion in the market area.
Officials stated that the project is part of the Assam government’s broader initiative to strengthen urban market infrastructure and provide small traders with permanent and well-planned commercial spaces. The modern facility is expected to boost local commerce while ensuring better hygiene and crowd management.
Beltola market, one of the oldest trading hubs in the city, caters to thousands of vendors and customers daily. Authorities expressed hope that the revamped complex will preserve the market’s traditional importance while aligning it with contemporary urban requirements.
Local traders and residents welcomed the development, saying the improved infrastructure would make business operations smoother and the market more accessible to the public.
