Amit Shah to arrive in Assam on January 29 for two-day visit, to unveil government projects

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will arrive in Assam on January 29 for a two-day visit, during which he is scheduled to inaugurate several government projects and lay the foundation stone for key infrastructure initiatives, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said on Tuesday.
According to the Chief Minister, Shah will reach Assam on the evening of January 29 and proceed to Dibrugarh, where he will stay overnight. On January 30, the Home Minister will lay the foundation stone for the second complex of the Assam Legislative Assembly at Dibrugarh, a major project aimed at strengthening the state’s administrative and legislative infrastructure.
During his visit, Shah is also expected to inaugurate and review a number of central and state government development projects, reflecting the Centre’s focus on accelerating infrastructure growth in the northeastern state. Sarma said the visit holds significance as Assam gears up for the 2026 Assembly elections.
The Home Minister will also attend a cultural programme in Upper Assam, highlighting the region’s indigenous heritage, before travelling to Guwahati, where he is scheduled to hold meetings with BJP leaders and party functionaries to review organisational preparedness and discuss the political situation in the state.
Shah is expected to leave Assam on the evening of January 30 for his next engagement.
Political observers see the visit as important both from a governance and political perspective, as the BJP steps up its outreach and development narrative in Assam ahead of the upcoming elections. The tour follows Shah’s earlier visits to the state, during which he inaugurated major projects and reiterated the Centre’s commitment to the development of the Northeast.
