Timely Emergency Call Saves Three Children in Deadly Indian Family Shooting in US

Atlanta (US): A timely emergency call made by a child helped save the lives of three children during a deadly shooting involving an Indian-origin family in the United States, police officials said.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday at a residence in Lawrenceville, Georgia, where four adults were found dead with gunshot wounds following a domestic dispute. According to authorities, the shooting took place around 2.30 am local time.
Police said three children — aged 7, 10 and 12 — were inside the house when the shooting occurred. As gunfire erupted, the children reportedly hid together in a closet. The eldest child managed to call 911, alerting emergency services and providing crucial information that enabled police to reach the scene quickly.
When officers arrived, they discovered the bodies of four adults inside the home. The victims included an Indian-origin woman and three of her relatives. All four were declared dead at the scene.
The suspect, identified as Vijay Kumar, was later tracked down by police using a K-9 unit and arrested from a nearby wooded area without further incident. Authorities said the suspect’s vehicle was found at the residence.
Police have charged Kumar with multiple counts, including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and cruelty to children. Investigators are continuing to probe the circumstances and motive behind the incident.
The three children were found unharmed and have since been placed in the care of family members. Officials praised the quick thinking of the child who made the emergency call, stating that it played a critical role in preventing further loss of life.
The Indian Consulate in Atlanta expressed condolences to the victims’ families and said it is extending all necessary assistance. The case remains under investigation.
