AIUDF Alleges Voter Roll Manipulation Ahead of Assam Polls

The All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) on Wednesday alleged large-scale manipulation of electoral rolls in Assam during the ongoing special revision exercise, claiming that the process is being misused to delete the names of genuine voters ahead of the forthcoming Assembly elections.
Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, senior AIUDF leaders accused the ruling establishment of influencing the revision process to target sections of voters perceived to be opposed to the government. They claimed that the exercise, intended to update and correct voter lists, has instead become a tool for selective and arbitrary deletions.
AIUDF leaders alleged that a significant number of Form-7 applications, which are filed to seek deletion of voters’ names, have been submitted without proper verification. According to the party, voters from eviction-affected areas and marginalised communities are being disproportionately targeted. The party also claimed that in several cases voters were wrongly declared “dead” in official records despite being alive.
The party further alleged misuse of the objection process, citing instances where a single individual filed objections against dozens of voters in a constituency. Such practices, AIUDF leaders said, undermine democratic principles and create fear among voters ahead of the polls.
Calling for immediate intervention, the AIUDF urged the Election Commission of India and the Assam Chief Electoral Officer to ensure strict scrutiny of all claims and objections and to prevent any politically motivated changes to the electoral rolls. The party warned that if corrective steps are not taken, it may explore legal options to safeguard voters’ rights.
Election officials have maintained that the special revision of the electoral rolls is being conducted in accordance with established guidelines and that safeguards are in place to prevent arbitrary deletions. They have reiterated that every voter has the right to appeal in case of wrongful exclusion.
The allegations add to mounting political tension in Assam, with opposition parties increasingly voicing concerns over the fairness and transparency of the electoral roll revision process ahead of the state elections.
